Wedding photography is not prohibited by Islam. However, it is a matter of concern that many people do not know the conditions under which wedding photography is permissible. There are several conditions that must be fulfilled before one can take pictures at a wedding. For example, the woman in question should be unveiled and not wearing any makeup or jewelry. She should also have on normal attire (boxers/pants) and she cannot wear stilettos or high-heels at the time of taking pictures.

It is permissible to take pictures of an unveiled woman.

It is not permissible to take pictures of a woman who is not of marriageable age.

It is permissible to take pictures of a woman who is of marriageable age, even if she is not married, because it is only the eyes that are being exposed and nobody will see them except for those who are permitted by Allah (SWT).

Wedding photography is prohibited due to other reasons, not because of the unveiling of the face.

As a Muslim, you must know that it is haram (prohibited) to take pictures of women’s faces. It is also Haram to take pictures of their hair, hands or body parts in general. Even if they wear hijab and cover their face with it so that only the eyes are visible, this is still prohibited because there is no need for it and it can expose them unintentionally.

The reason why we say that taking pictures of a woman’s face is prohibited due to other reasons rather than because of the unveiling of her face itself lies in the fact that there are many ulama who have given Fatwa stating that it’s permissible for men or women to make salat behind a woman who has unveiled her face during salat – as long as she covers herself properly before going into salat. In addition to this, some scholars have even stated that those who perform prayer behind such person should still be considered acceptable from an Islamic perspective – hence meaning there isn’t any real basis for banning photography due just one thing being shown which could be easily covered up without much effort at all!

When the photographer intends to publish the wedding photographs in newspapers and magazines, it becomes haram.

If the photographer intends to publish the wedding photographs in newspapers and magazines, it becomes haram. This is because publishing pictures of the bride and groom is haram and it would be an act of sin if one publishes them for public viewing.

  • If it’s for private use then it will not be considered as a sin.

It is permissible to publish a photograph that includes a non-Muslim woman.

Posing for the camera is ‘awrah and it is not permissible for a man or woman to pose in this manner. However, if there is a need—such as in taking pictures of one’s children or spouse—then it is permissible for a man to take pictures of his wife, and vice versa. Wedding photography falls under the same category. It may be permissible so long as these conditions are met:

  • The photographer should not have any desire to expose the subjects, whether men or women; they are only seen with their clothes on (the latter being obligatory).
  • The photos must only be taken by professional photographers who specialize in weddings because they will take care of all aspects related to photography according to Islamic law.

While it is permissible for a man to take pictures of his wife and children, it is not permissible for a woman to take pictures of her husband without his knowledge or permission. The reason for this lies in the fact that taking pictures are considered part of revealing one’s self before others, which is prohibited in Islam.

The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allaah has cursed the woman who imitates men and the man who imitates women.” (Abu Dawud)

However, there are exceptions to this rule: if any relative wants to have a picture taken with their close family members then it will be allowed because they have an obligation towards each other which overrides all other considerations related to taking pictures.

Wedding photography is permissible so long as these conditions are fulfilled.
